(Tribune) The Himachal government has set a target to become the first tuberculosis-free state of the country by 2023 under Mukhyamantri Kshay Rog Nivaran Yojna (MMKRNY). A Health Department spokesman said as many as 12 continuing medical education (CME) programmes for private practitioners and 12 workshops for chemists have been conducted across the state under the yojana to achieve the target. Around 14,000 patients are diagnosed with TB and put on treatment every year in the state. The government had set up an industrial area at Pandoga in Una at Rs 70 crore. A similar amount is spent on bringing up an industrial area in Kandrori in Kangra district near Pathankot. (ET) India is considering a proposal to combine two state-run lenders to utilities, REC Ltd. and Power Finance Corp., according to people familiar with the discussions, as it seeks to raise funds to bridge a budget gap. The first phase of the deal will see REC acquiring a majority stake in Power Finance valued at $2.5 billion possibly by the year ending March 2019, the people said, asking not to be named as the talks aren’t public. (The Tribune) World Bank has approved a development policy loan (DPL)-I of Rs292 crore ($40 million) for the Shimla Water Supply and Sewerage Project. The loan was sanctioned at a meeting held under the chairmanship of the Director, Economic Affairs, Government of India, on Monday, said an official spokesperson. The spokesperson said the total amount of the DAP loan to be released for the project is Rs 986 crore ($135 million) which would be released in three phases.
