The Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs has approved the construction of around 1,40,134 more affordable houses for the benefit of urban poor under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). The approval was given in the 45thmeeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee held heretoday. The cumulative number of houses sanctioned under PMAY(U) now is 85,11,574. A bench headed by Justice S A Bobde issued notices to the Centre, the Central Bureau of Investigation, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh on a plea which claimed that rampant illegal mining in the states was causing environmental degradation. It covers all LPG consumers registered with OMCs. Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) hasinformed that there are no roadblocks in setting up the 9 MMTPA Refinery-cum-petrochemical complex at an approved cost of Rs. 43,129 crore at Pachpadra in Barmer district of Rajasthan. In addition to Motor Spirit and Diesel, the Refinery envisages production of major products like Ethylene and Propylene derivatives. These derivatives are used as feedstock in various ancillary industries viz. packaging, textile, petrochemical industry etc. The Refinery project is likely to provide direct employment to about 1,500 skilled manpower and during construction stage, refinery is expected to generate indirect employment forabout 30,000 persons. (PTI) Air India is planning to bring all of its 17 aircraft, which have been grounded for a “prolonged” period, back into operation by October-end, its chief Ashwani Lohani has said. These 17 aircraft have been grounded for time periods ranging from four months to one year due to lack of funds for their repair and maintenance. “We plan to retrieve all 17 prolonged grounded aircraft by the end of October,” Air India Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Ashwani Lohani told PTI. (ET) The oil ministry will soon approach the Cabinet for about Rs 6,000 crore in viability gap funding (VGF) for the proposed gas grid in the northeast. Indradhanush Gas Grid Ltd (IGGL), a joint venture of Indian OilNSE 2.49 %, ONGC, GAIL, Oil India, and Numaligarh Refinery, plans to lay 1,600-kilometre northeast gas grid at a cost of about RS 10,000 crore. IGGL would need about 60% funding support from the central government for this, an official said.
