(PTI) India’s gold imports, which has a bearing on the country’s current account deficit (CAD), more than doubled to USD 38 billion during April-December this fiscal on account of higher demand, according to data of the commerce ministry. The imports stood at USD 16.78 billion in April-December 2020. In December 2021, imports of the precious metal rose to USD 4.8 billion from USD 4.5 billion in the year-ago period. (T.E.T) Indian Oil Corp has bagged city gas licenses for 9 out of the 15 high-potential geographical areas (GAs) in the latest bidding round and plans to invest Rs 7,000 crore in developing infrastructure in these areas, the company said in a statement. The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) had sought bids for 65 GAs in the XIth bidding round. (T.E.T) Sales of petrol and diesel in the first half of January dipped by 3% and 5%, respectively, from a year ago, as Omicron brought back work-from-home and several travel restrictions. Compared with the first fortnight of January 2020, petrol sales, which had recovered quickly from the first and second waves of the Covid-19 pandemic, were still 6% higher, as per the sales data from state-run oil companies that control about 90% of petrol pumps in the country. (PTI) India registered 2,68,833 new Covid infections in a day taking the tally to 3,68,50,962, which includes 6,041 Omicron variant cases, according to the Union Health Ministry data on Saturday. With 402 more deaths, the number of people who have succumbed to the viral disease has risen to 4,85,752. The case fatality rate was 1.32 per cent. A total of 6,041 Omicron cases has been detected so far, an increase of 5.01 per cent since Friday, the data updated at 8 am showed.
