The Opposition today took the Trivendra Singh Rawat government to task on the tardy assessment of areas where crops were damaged due to hailstorm in the months of March and April.Raising the issue in Question Hour, state Congress chief Preetam Singh said the Tyuni area in Chakrata had suffered extensive damage. “The standing crop had been perished by hailstorm in March but farmers have not been adequately compensated,” he said.
While giving his reply, the state Minister for Urban Development said according to the information by the District Magistrate the area had suffered less than 33 per cent damage. As such the compensation could not be given according to the norms of state disaster response fund. However, the reply did not satisfy the Preetam Singh, who wanted the total hectare under that had been damaged. But the minister failed to give a convincing reply. So far, the government has given compensation to the farmers of Bageshwar, Uttarkashi and Pithoragarh.
