Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh emphasised on the need for proper and judicious implementation of Government schemes in order to deliver the benefits to the targeted people. He was speaking as the chief guest at the launching function of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) at City Convention Centre, Palace Compound, Imphal on Monday.

Biren said that many noble Central Government sponsored schemes had become a failure in the State in the past due to violation of norms and dishonesty of State Government officials. As such, there is need to implement these schemes in a transparent and judicious manner in order to deliver the benefits to the targeted section of people, he added. The Chief Minister assured the gathering that the new State Government would never allow any unscrupulous practice by LPG agencies during the course of implementing PMUY in the State.

Stating that forms for the ambitious scheme would be made available to the people soon, the Chief Minister urged the public to make the scheme a grand success. He further pointed out that the scheme would not only control many deadly diseases created by the smokes emitted from ‘chulas’, Biren contended that the welfare programme would also enable environment protection as it would reduce the rate of felling of trees considerably.

Delivering his speech, Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh said that reaching out to the poorest of the poor people residing at the remotest corner of the country is the main objective of the schemes introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that the NDA-led Central Government has a firm commitment to serve the needy people of the country.

Stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ministerial team had the courage of conviction, Dr. Singh said that they have a strong desire to bring a new culture of politics in the country. He said that more than 1300 obsolete laws had been abolished and many people-oriented schemes introduced ever since the NDA-led Government was formed at the Centre three years back.

Deputy Chief Minister Y. Joykumar while delivering his speech said that PMUY is one of the most ambitious welfare schemes launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In Manipur, hill districts would be allocated greater number of connections when compared with valley districts in order to check deforestation in hill areas, he added.

CAF & PD Minister Karam Shyam said that around 1,50,000 women belonging to BPL families would be benefited under PMUY in the State. He said that Manipur is the second State after Assam in the entire North East where the scheme had been launched. The Minister assured that the scheme would be executed in the State in a proper manner through IOCL and LPG agencies, and there would be no political interference at all.
