The Uttarakhand Government is planning to withdraw political cases pending against several BJP leaders. The immediate beneficiaries of the move would be Uttarakhand School Education Minister Arvind Pandey, BJP MLAs Puran Singh Fartyal, Ganesh Joshi and Rajkumar Thukral.Chief Minister Trivender Singh Rawat made this announcement yesterday at a public function to mark the BJP’s foundation day.Though the decision of the Chief Minister no doubt has made the party workers happy, it is not without legal tangles and would eventually have to go through the courts.

However, the decision is not unprecedented as in the past too, the Congress government had buried several cases pending against its party leaders. As of now, there are several cases pending against Arvind Pandey. In one case he was also lodged in jail after had allegedly hit a Naib Tehsildar in 2015.
