A 16-year-old boy has been arrested for allegedly murdering his elder brother, sister-in-law and three-year-old nephew in a shocking incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur district early on Monday.
The triple murder took place around 3 a.m. in Balua village, located under the jurisdiction of Bansgaon police station, approximately 50 kilometres from Gorakhpur city. The victims were identified as Amit Gupta, his wife Ranjana and their three-year-old son Reyansh.
According to police, the family members were asleep in the same room when the teenager allegedly attacked them with a sharp-edged weapon. The accused’s parents were sleeping in a separate room at the time of the incident.
Investigators said the boy’s father was awakened by screams and rushed to the room, where he found the three victims lying in a pool of blood. He reportedly saw his younger son leaving the room with the weapon in hand. The father then alerted neighbours and informed the police.
Senior police officials reached the scene shortly after receiving information about the incident and began an investigation. The accused was later detained from an upstairs room in the house. Police said they recovered a blood-stained weapon believed to have been used in the attack.
A criminal case has been registered based on a complaint filed by the victims’ father. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death and gather further forensic evidence.
Speaking on the case, Dinesh Puri, Superintendent of Police (South), confirmed that all three victims were killed inside the room and said the juvenile suspect is being questioned by investigators.
Police have not yet established a clear motive behind the killings. However, preliminary findings suggest that a dispute related to a family-run shop may have contributed to tensions within the household. Authorities are examining all possible angles as part of the ongoing investigation.
Further details are expected to emerge as police continue questioning the accused and collecting evidence from the crime scene.
