Yamal Stars As Spain Thrash Saudi Arabia

Teenage sensation Lamine Yamal announced his arrival on football’s biggest stage with a goal as Spain secured a commanding 4-0 victory over Saudi Arabia in the FIFA World Cup on Sunday.

The win marked Spain’s first victory of the tournament after a disappointing 0-0 draw against Cape Verde in their opening match. With pressure mounting on one of the pre-tournament favorites, Yamal delivered the spark Spain needed, scoring just 10 minutes into his first World Cup start.

The 18-year-old winger, already regarded as one of the brightest talents in world football, finished off a low cross from Mikel Oyarzabal at the far post to open the scoring. The goal made Yamal the eighth-youngest scorer in World Cup history and helped settle Spanish nerves early in the contest.

Having recently returned from a hamstring injury that sidelined him at the end of the club season, questions had surrounded Yamal’s fitness heading into the tournament. After appearing as a substitute against Cape Verde, Spain coach Luis de la Fuente handed him a starting role against Saudi Arabia, and the young star quickly justified the decision.

Spain dominated throughout the first half, with Oyarzabal playing a key role. After assisting Yamal’s opener, the forward added two goals of his own in quick succession, scoring in the 21st and 24th minutes to give Spain a comfortable 3-0 lead before halftime.

The Spanish side continued their dominance after the break. Just four minutes into the second half, Marc Cucurella’s effort deflected off Saudi defender Hassan Altambakti and into the net for an own goal, extending the lead to 4-0.

The emphatic victory not only revived Spain’s World Cup campaign but also highlighted the growing influence of Yamal, who is widely viewed as one of football’s future global superstars. With confidence restored and key players finding form, Spain will now look to build momentum as they pursue a deep run in the tournament.
