The FIFA World Cup 2026 officially got underway with spectacular opening ceremonies across the tournament’s three host nations — Mexico, Canada, and the United States. Blending music, technology, and culture, the celebrations marked the beginning of the biggest World Cup in history.

The centerpiece of the festivities took place in Mexico City, where global music stars Shakira and Burna Boy delivered a headline-grabbing performance. The duo performed the official FIFA World Cup anthem, Dai Dai, captivating fans with a high-energy show featuring elaborate choreography and a large ensemble of dancers.

Their appearance also highlighted the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, bringing attention to educational initiatives through the global platform of the World Cup.

The ceremony embraced cutting-edge technology, featuring AI-enhanced flag projections and immersive 360-degree fan experiences that transformed the stadium atmosphere. Organizers aimed to combine football, entertainment, and innovation in a way that reflected the global nature of the tournament.

Colombian stars J Balvin and Ryan Castro added to the excitement with a medley of their popular hits. J Balvin also performed his chart-topping 2018 track Que Calor before joining Castro for a rendition of Una A La Vez, drawing loud cheers from the crowd.

Several other renowned artists took the stage throughout the event, showcasing the cultural diversity of the host nations and the international appeal of the tournament. The lineup included Alejandro Fernández, Maná, Belinda, Lila Downs, Danny Ocean, Los Ángeles Azules, and South African singer Tyla.

With football and entertainment coming together on a grand scale, the opening ceremony set the tone for what promises to be a memorable World Cup. As the tournament begins across North America, fans can now look forward to a month of world-class football and global celebration.
