India is steadily positioning itself as a global leader in the bio-economy and bio-based agricultural inputs sector, driven by its strong scientific capabilities, rich biodiversity, and rapidly expanding start-up ecosystem. This vision was highlighted by Shri Tejveer Singh, Secretary, Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals (DCPC), Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, during the valedictory session of BIOPSF 2026 held in New Delhi.
The two-day symposium-cum-workshop, BIOPSF 2026, was organized by the Institute of Pesticide Formulation Technology (IPFT), Gurugram, an autonomous institution under the DCPC. Held at the National Agricultural Science Complex (NASC), the event focused on the theme “Next Gen Bio-Inputs – Bio-based Pesticides, Stimulants and Fertilizers” and formed part of the 36th Foundation Day celebrations of IPFT.
Addressing participants from government, academia, industry, start-ups, and research institutions, Shri Singh emphasized that increased policy support for sustainable agriculture and dedicated bio-economy initiatives are creating a favorable environment for growth. He noted that India’s scientific excellence, strong industry-academia collaborations, and the contributions of young innovators will play a crucial role in developing sustainable agricultural solutions for the future.
Highlighting the growing importance of bio-pesticides, Shri Singh stressed the need for advanced formulation technologies that improve product stability, field performance, ease of application, and farmer acceptance. He underscored that technological innovation remains key to ensuring the effectiveness and widespread adoption of bio-based crop protection products.
The Secretary further stated that as India advances towards the vision of “Vikshit Bharat 2047” and a robust bio-economy, there is a need to strengthen indigenous technological capabilities, encourage translational research, and promote start-up-driven innovation in bio-based chemicals and sustainable agricultural inputs.
BIOPSF 2026 served as an important platform for stakeholders to discuss emerging trends and innovations shaping the future of sustainable agriculture in India.
