US Launches Fresh Strikes On Iranian Military Targets

The United States carried out fresh military strikes in Iran overnight, targeting a site believed to pose a threat to American forces and commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, according to a Reuters report citing a US official.

The official, speaking anonymously, said the US military also intercepted and destroyed several Iranian drones that were allegedly threatening regional security and maritime traffic. The latest strikes mark another escalation in tensions between Washington and Tehran amid ongoing diplomatic negotiations aimed at ending the conflict that has gripped the region for the past three months.

The war, which reportedly began on February 28 following coordinated attacks involving the US and Israel, has resulted in thousands of deaths and triggered sharp increases in global energy prices. The Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil shipping route, remains at the center of the conflict due to concerns over maritime security.

Earlier on Wednesday, US President Donald Trump rejected Iranian state media reports claiming that Iran and Oman would jointly manage shipping operations through the Strait of Hormuz as part of a potential peace agreement. Trump insisted that the strategic waterway would remain open and secure.

The latest military action follows what the US described as “defensive strikes” conducted earlier this week. Those operations reportedly targeted Iranian boats attempting to lay naval mines and missile launch sites that US Central Command claimed threatened American military personnel and commercial vessels.

Iran, however, condemned the strikes, calling them a violation of the fragile ceasefire currently in place between the two nations. Despite ongoing peace talks, the renewed military activity highlights the continuing instability in the region and raises concerns about further escalation.
