Banaras Haveli at Assi Ghat Connected to Piped Natural Gas (PNG)

GAIL (India) Limited has achieved another significant milestone in promoting clean, safe, and affordable energy under the Varanasi City Gas Distribution (CGD) project. In this continued effort, GAIL Varanasi successfully provided a Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connection to Hotel Banaras Haveli, located at Assi Ghat, Shivala, Varanasi.
The inauguration of PNG supply was carried out by Shri Sushil Kumar, General Manager (GM), Varanasi and In-charge, Varanasi, in the presence of senior officials from GAIL (India) Limited, including Shri Gauri Shankar Mishra (General Manager), Shri Suresh Tiwari (General Manager), Shri Udit Sinha (General Manager – Finance), and Shri Debasis Sahu (Senior Officer). The PNG supply to the hotel was formally commissioned in the presence of all officials.

Assi Ghat is one of the most prominent and historically significant ghats of Varanasi, attracting a large number of tourists, pilgrims, and local residents throughout the year. Providing PNG connectivity in this area was particularly challenging due to extremely congested surroundings, narrow access roads, high pedestrian movement, and dense population. Despite these on‑ground challenges, GAIL Varanasi successfully executed the project with careful planning, safety compliance, and technical efficiency, demonstrating its commitment to expanding clean energy access even in difficult urban environments.

Banaras Haveli is a well‑known heritage-style boutique hotel located at Assi Ghat, offering an authentic Banarasi experience to domestic and international visitors. The hotel is known for its traditional architecture, cultural ambience, and proximity to the Ganges, making it a preferred stay for tourists seeking the spiritual and cultural essence of Varanasi. Connecting such a prominent hospitality establishment to PNG reflects GAIL’s focus on supporting environmentally responsible operations in heritage and tourism-centric locations.

Connecting Banaras Haveli to the PNG network marks another important step by GAIL (India) Limited in extending clean energy access to commercial consumers in Varanasi. This initiative highlights GAIL’s continuous commitment to making Kashi greener and cleaner by connecting hotels, restaurants, commercial establishments, and industries to a reliable, safe, and eco‑friendly energy source. GAIL Varanasi remains dedicated to expanding its gas distribution network and delivering sustainable energy solutions to an increasing number of consumers across the city.
