The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has launched the Skill India Assistant (SIA) — an AI-powered chatbot designed to enhance access to skilling and employment-related services for citizens across the country. Developed in collaboration with Meta and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), SIA operates under the aegis of MSDE to promote digital inclusion and ensure seamless service delivery within India’s skilling ecosystem.

Key Features of Skill India Assistant (SIA):

    1. Access Platforms: Available on the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) and via WhatsApp for ease of use.

    2. AI Technology: Built on Meta’s open-source Large Language Model (LLaMA), enabling smart, human-like interaction.

    3. Core Functions:

      • Personalized course recommendations

      • Locator for nearby training centers

      • Job listings tailored to user skills

      • Interactive quizzes and instant doubt resolution

    4. Language and Communication Support:

      • Operates in English, Hindi, and Hinglish

      • Supports both text and voice interactions for user convenience

    5. Round-the-Clock Availability: Functional 24/7, offering continuous assistance to users at any time.

    6. Scalable and Inclusive Design: Represents the first large-scale use of open-source AI in a national skilling initiative, with a strong focus on reaching rural and underserved populations.

    7. Wider Outreach: Through WhatsApp integration, SIA ensures accessibility for users even with limited internet connectivity or basic smartphones.

    Accessibility Features:

To ensure inclusive access for all individuals — especially persons with disabilities and those from rural areas — SIA incorporates the following:

    • Multilingual & Multimodal Interface: Supports communication in multiple languages and offers both voice and text-based interactions, accommodating users with low literacy or limited digital proficiency.

    • Low-Bandwidth Compatibility: Designed to function smoothly on basic smartphones without requiring high-speed internet, making it ideal for rural and remote areas.

A nationwide awareness campaign is being conducted through social media platforms to promote the adoption of SIA among youth and target communities.
