Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) held the SAIL – Defence Conclave 2025 at its Alloy Steels Plant in Durgapur on 4 June 2025, reaffirming its strategic commitment to strengthening India’s defence infrastructure through self-reliant steel supply.

A key producer of defence-grade alloys, SAIL organised the conclave to deepen collaboration with Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) and address evolving material needs in the defence sector. The event focused on indigenisation, import substitution, and aligning with the Government of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision.

Senior officials from leading defence organisations, including ordnance factories, participated in the discussions. The conclave featured insights from SAIL’s top leadership, including Shri V.S. Chakravarthy, Director (Commercial), and Shri Alok Verma, Director In-Charge of Rourkela Steel Plant, who also oversees the Durgapur and Burnpur plants.

Deliberations explored opportunities for synergy in defence-grade material specifications, adoption of indigenous technologies, and expanded steel supply to meet critical defence manufacturing requirements. SAIL reaffirmed its commitment to being a trusted strategic partner, capable of scaling up production for the sector.

The conclave underscored SAIL’s pivotal role in supporting India’s goal of self-reliance in defence manufacturing, and the company’s readiness to meet the nation’s future needs with enhanced volumes of specialised steel products.
