    (TOI)

Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw is set to visit Jamalpur railway workshop on Friday.

According to ECR’s chief public relations officer (CPRO) Saraswati Chandra, the minister will travel from Patna to Jamalpur on Friday around 8.30am by a special train reaching there around 11am.

The Jamalpur workshop, one of the oldest and most prestigious railway workshops in the country, has long been a hub of mechanical excellence and railway innovation, he said, adding the workshop had come into being on Feb 8, 1862 as the first full-fledged workshop facility in the country.

This marks Vaishnaw’s maiden visit to the Jamalpur facility since assuming office, and it is expected to include an inspection of ongoing modernisation efforts, interactions with railway staff and a review of operational capabilities, railway sources said, adding after spending the day at the workshop, Vaishnaw will return to Patna around 5pm. He will then depart to New Delhi by 6.20pm.

Railway sources indicate that Vaishnaw’s visit underscores the Union govt’s focus on strengthening railway infrastructure and modernisation in the eastern India.
