Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday directed the officials concerned to increase the security measures at national establishments, and for Char Dham yatra, officials said.

After a virtual meeting with Union home minister Amit Shah followed by India carrying out strikes in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir under Operation Sindoor, Dhami held a high-level meeting at his residence in Dehradun to discuss security measures, they added.

Dhami asked officials to tighten security for the Char Dham yatra, important national establishments, dams, and power plants in Uttarakhand, officials said.

He emphasised the need for robust security arrangements in all areas bordering the international borders, asking officials to closely monitoring suspicious activities in these areas, they added.

“The Char Dham yatra attracts millions of pilgrims, the security along the pilgrimage routes and at all four shrines should be increased,” the officials said, quoting the CM.

The Char Dham yatra began on April 30 with the opening of Yamunotri and Gangotri temple. The Kedarnath temple opened on May 2 and Badrinath temple May 4.

Dhami directed that in the event of any emergency, the supply of essential goods, including food, should be ensured at district and tehsil levels, they said.

“Hospitals should be kept on alert to deal with any emergency situations, and adequate supplies of essential medicines must be arranged,” he said in the meeting, adding that rescue and relief teams be trained for all emergencies.

He stressed on the need to provide the general public with accurate and verified information to avoid the spread of rumors. “It should be ensured that the public receives only authentic information, especially through social media, and strict action should be taken against those spreading false information,’ he said.

CM Dhami also instructed that, given the current situation, leave requests for government personnel be minimised unless absolutely necessary. He also asked all district magistrates and district police in-charges to review security arrangements in their respective districts. Dhami assured the public that the government and administration were ready to assist them any way necessary. He also expressed his special gratitude to home minister Shah for providing additional central security forces for the Char Dham yatra.

The meeting was attended by chief secretary Anand Bardhan, principal secretary RK Sudhanshu, director general of police Deepam Seh, secretary, home Shailesh Bagauli, and secretary, disaster management Vinod Kumar Suman.
