Big blow to Muslim side in Gyanvapi case, Varanasi court approves ASI survey

The Varanasi court has ruled in favor of the Gyanvapi survey. Advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain, representing the Hindu side in the Gyanvapi mosque case, said that the court has ordered the ASI survey. Vishnu Shankar Jain said that my application has been approved and the court has approved the Vaju tank, Which has been sealed. The ASI has directed to conduct a survey of the Gyanvapi mosque complex. The ASI will submit the report of the survey to the district judge on August 4.

What is the meaning of the survey?

The Supreme Court had stayed the Allahabad High Court’s direction allowing scientific survey and carbon-dating of the alleged Shivalinga found inside the Gyanvapi mosque complex. Regarding this matter, one side says that it is a Shivling and the other side says that it is a fountain. Now a survey of this complex will reveal how old the mosque is and how much truth is there in the claims made by the Hindu side in it.

Earlier, court commissioner Ajay Mishra had conducted a survey of the Gyanvapi campus on May 6-7. According to the report of this survey, artwork of gods and goddesses, some lotus artifacts and Sheshnag-like figures were found on the walls of the complex.

    What is dispute

Regarding the Gyanvapi dispute, the Hindu side claims that there is a 100 feet high Adi Vishweshwar’s Swayambhu Jyotirlinga below it and arrangements should be made for regular worship of Lord Vishweshwar. The ongoing dispute over the Gyanvapi mosque complex is that the Hindu side had demanded that the entire Gyanvapi complex be handed over to Hindus and the entry of Muslims should be closed in Gyanvapi. Along with this, the Hindu side says that the dome of the mosque should be ordered to be demolished.

How long has the legal battle been going on recently?

The first case regarding the Gyanvapi mosque was filed in a Varanasi court in 1991. However, the controversy escalated when on August 18, 2021, five women approached the court seeking daily worship and darshan at the Shringar Gauri temple. Five Hindu women Rakhi Singh, Manju andYas, Rekha Pathak, Sita Sahu, and Laxmi Devi – had filed the Shringar Gauri-Gyanvapi case in the court of Civil Judge (Senior Division) Varanasi in August 2021. During this time, they demanded the right to daily worship at the Maa Shringar Gauri site in the Gyanvapi mosque premises. Even before independence, there were many controversies in this matter and in 1809, a communal riot broke out over the dispute.
