According to Indian Army officials, the terrorists killed in the operation are likely foreign nationals and their identities are being ascertained. At least four terrorists were killed in a joint operation by security forces in Sindhara area of Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir. Security forces busted a militant hideout and arrested one person during their search operation, official sources said on Tuesday.
According to Indian Army officials, the first encounter between the security forces took place under Operation ‘Trinetra 2’ at around 11:30 pm on Monday, after which drones were deployed along with other night surveillance equipment.
“At dawn today, the encounter resumed with heavy firing between security forces and militants. “Personnel of the Special Forces of the Indian Army, Rashtriya Rifles and Jammu and Kashmir Police were part of the operation along with other forces,” officials told news agency ANI.
“In a major cordon and search operation, acting on specific intelligence inputs, four terrorists were killed in a joint operation by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police near Sindarah and Maidana villages of Surankote tehsil of Poonch district. Four AK-47s, two pistols and other ammunition were also recovered from the terrorists. With the elimination of these terrorists, major terrorist incidents have been averted in Rajouri and Poonch areas. “The search operation is still ongoing,” Emery said in a statement.
He said the militants killed in the operation are possibly foreign terrorists and their identities are being ascertained. Meanwhile, three grenades and other materials have been seized from the hideout which was busted by the security forces.
A search operation is being carried out by the Army and Special Operation Group in the Kala Jhula forest area. Security has been beefed up in Poonch town and vehicles plying on the roads are being checked as part of the search operation. On Monday, two militants were killed by troops while foiling an infiltration bid along the Line of Control in Poonch.
