Over 300 mail and express trains and over 400 passenger trains have been cancelled between July 7 and 13 in the last few days amid waterlogging in several parts of India, officials said on Thursday.

Several states, including Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan received “heavy to extremely heavy’ rains’ resulting in massive damage to infrastructure and disruption of essential services at places. Such as Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab.

The Northern Railway cancelled around 300 mail and express trains, while 191 were diverted. According to officials, around 67 trains were short-originated.

Due to the rise in the water level in the Yamuna at the Old Railway Bridge, the movement of trains between Delhi Junction and Delhi Shahdara has been temporarily suspended from July 11 to July 13 at 6 am, the Railway Ministry said in a statement. Until the water level comes down to the normal mark, the movement of trains will remain closed.

As yamuna water entered major roads in Delhi including Ring Road, Kashmere Gate, , ITO and Red Fort area, a similar scene was witnessed in Noida Sector 137 due to overflowing drains . Areas around Noida Sector 137, residential society Paras Tiarea and Advent Park were flooded to the knees, leaving people struggling to follow daily routines.
