    Fuel Rates Kept Unchanged Today

The prices of petrol and diesel have been left untouched by the state-run oil marketing companies (OMCs) for over a month now.

A litre of petrol now costs Rs 95.41 in Delhi, while diesel rates – which were kept unchanged – stood at Rs 86.67.

In Mumbai, petrol is retailed at Rs 109.98 per litre, while diesel is being sold at Rs 94.14 per litre. Among the metro cities, fuel rates are still the highest in Mumbai.

Petrol and diesel in Kolkata are retailing at Rs 104.67 per litre and Rs 89.79 per litre, respectively. Chennai retailed a litre of petrol at the same price of Rs 101.40. Diesel rates also remained unchanged at Rs 91.43 per litre.

The Central government cut excise duty on petrol by Rs 5 per litre and on diesel by Rs 10 a litre on November 4 to give relief to consumers battered by record-high retail fuel prices. Following this, many states and union territories have cut value-added tax (VAT) to give further relief to consumers.

Delhi was the latest city to reduce the VAT on fuel rates and the back-to-back rate cuts on petrol and diesel lowered their prices, bringing relief to the common man.

In Rajasthan’s Sri Ganganagar, petrol is retailing at Rs 112.11 per litre, which is the most expensive in the country and diesel costs Rs 95.26 per litre, whereas, in Bangalore, petrol costs Rs 100.58 per litre and diesel is available at Rs 85.01 per litre.

Meanwhile, in Patna, the capital of Bihar, the prices of petrol and diesel stood at Rs 105.92 and Rs 91.09 per litre respectively.

It may be noted that fuel rates are the cheapest in Port Blair, where petrol and diesel cost Rs 82.96 and Rs 77.13 per litre, respectively.
