The first unit of the 111 MW Sawra Kuddu Hydro Electric Project will start generating power by this April. The process of filling the head race tunnel of the project will start soon.Water will be made available at the main inlet valve of the project power house by March. Execution of the project started in June 2007 but ran into trouble over the excavation of the 11.365 km head race tunnel because of adverse geological rock conditions. The project comprises a diversion barrage on Pabbar river near Hatkoti and underground powerhouse on th per cente left bank of the Pabbar river near Snail village.

Addressing mediapersons at Hatkoti on Thursday, Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited director (Civil) D S Thakur said despite adverse geological conditions encountered during the excavation of the head race tunnel, the project had to be driven through rock strata with high ingress of water along with flowing rock conditions at various locations. He said it had to be tackled very cautiously and with high engineering proficiency.
