    Gas Reserves In Assam And Other North-Eastern States

    Union Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan has said that Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Limited, Oil India Limited (OIL) and Private/Joint Ventures (Pvt./JVs) companies have been producing natural gas from the fields / blocks located in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura. During 2017-18, total 4.67 Billion Cubic Meter (BCM) natural gas was produced by ONGC, OIL and Pvt./JVs companies. The total balance recoverable reserve of natural gas resource in North-Eastern States is about 198 BCM.

    In a written reply in Rajya Sabha today, the Minister said thatGovernmentof India has prepared Hydrocarbon Vision 2030 document for North-east, outlining steps to leverage the hydrocarbon sector for development of the North-east region. Government has awarded and signed contract for 9 unmonetized discovered contract areas located in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh for exploitation of hydrocarbon reserves under Discovered Small Field Policy bid round-I. In the year 2016, Government has notified Hydrocarbon Exploration and Licensing Policy (HELP) for exploitation of both conventional and unconventional oil and gas resources.
