NRL ensures that benefits of the CSR activities reaches to the less privileged and marginalized section of the society under the focus areas of promotion of education, women empowerment, skill development & livelihood, health care, development of rural infrastructure, promotion of sports, environment sustainability and promoting Swachh Bharat Mission. Company’s CSR expenditure has grown by many folds in the last few years.
Right from inception, NRL has been pursuing definite measures for social welfare and community development. Focus of major NRL’s CSR lies in the surrounding areas of the refinery at Numaligarh, Assam and at Siliguri in West Bengal, where its marketing terminal is located. The community, particularly around the refinery at Numaligarh has witnessed perceptible improvement on socio economic front on account of CSR initiatives of NRL.

Company’s CSR expenditure has grown by many folds in the last few years. During 2017-18, NRL CSR expenditure has increased to Rs. 46.24 crores, registering a growth of around 123% over previous years CSR spending of Rs. 20.69 crores. During 2017-18, out of the total CSR expenditure, NRL had spent Rs. 15.10 crores towards Swachata Action Plan as targeted. In compliance to the Company’s Act 2013, NRL allocates and spends 2% of its profit towards CSR activities.
Some of the flagship CSR initiatives of NRL includes, ‘Uttoron’ under which 370 youths were imparted skill training in 2017-18, ‘Prerona’ and ‘Gyandip’- under which meritorious students are supported through schoarships and ‘Parichannata’ under which low cost toilets were provided to the under privileged section of the society. Besides, NRL has set up the VKNRL Nursing School at Numaligarh at a cost of Rs. 26 crores and developed four villages in the neighborhood of the refinery as model village.
