Regulatory Authorities Under Lens Over Illegal Constructions

Unauthorised constructions ranging from four to eight storeys have brought the working of the regulatory authorities under the scanner. As per the Town and Country Planning norms, only three plus one storey for parking is admissible, but several hotels have flagrantly violated the norms by constructing four to eight storeys. While officials of the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Department say the presence of skeletal staff acts as an impediment to check such violations, it is appalling to note that the illegality has become the norm.Thirteen cases of unauthorised constructions pointed out by the NGT point towards the glaring violation of the TCP norms. Hotel Bird’s View has added a three-storey frame structure to an existing building without prior approval of the TCP Department. As many as nine rooms and one cottage, which have been declared unauthorised, are now supposed to be demolished.
