As a part of Oil and Gas Conservation monthly programme, Saksham, a cyclothon, was organised by Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) in the city on Sunday. The cycle rally was flagged off by MP Nalin Kumar Kateel in the presence of Mangaluru South MLA J R Lobo.
The cycle rally was a part of a nationwide campaign being taken up by Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA), a body under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India. The campaign to creating awareness about the conservation of fuels, reducing wastage of petroleum products and promoting recycling is being taken up by PCRA in association with public sector oil companies. The campaign contains two components – educational campaign through various media and on-ground events like the cycle rally. The cycle rally has been planned to be carried out in 77 cities across the country over a period of four months and in Mangaluru, MRPL has been nominated.
