(PIB) In a notable advancement towards strengthening India’s energy independence and economic growth, the Ministry of Coal has signed Coal Mine Development and Production Agreements (CMDPAs) with the successful bidders of two coal mines—Marwatola-II and Namchik West—under the 11th round of commercial coal mining auctions. These agreements mark another step toward the country’s goal of achieving self-reliance in coal production. Singhal Business Private Limited has secured the Marwatola-II block, while PRA Nuravi Coal Mining Private Limited has emerged as the successful bidder for Namchik West. (ET) NTPC Ltd is exploring the possibility of installing small modular reactors at its older coal-based power plants. India’s largest power generator has issued a tender, inviting bids from consultants to undertake a feasibility study for installing these reactors. Interested bidders have until April 18 to submit their offers. NTPC’s feasibility study for SMRs marks the first such move by a state-run company. It follows the government preparing a framework to reach 100 GW capacity and working on amendments to laws to allow private sector participation in nuclear power generation. (Business Standard) The country’s largest coal producer, Coal India Limited (CIL) paid ₹5,832.69 crore to the central and state governments in March 2025 — about 4.7 per cent less than what it paid in March 2024, which was ₹6,126.42 crore. For the financial year 2024-25, CIL paid ₹60,959.52 crore to the government exchequer. This was a small increase of 1.2 per cent compared to ₹60,197.8 crore paid in 2023-24, according to provisional government data.
