Uttar Pradesh does not intend to allow any commercial activity that has a potential to cause the spread of the virus, the state’s chief secretary RK Tiwari said days before the extended nationwide lockdown is scheduled to end on May 3.

Asked about the way forward for UP after the lockdown ends, Tiwari said on Tuesday that the general sense is that protection from the disease continues to be the top priority and the government will not compromise on its efforts and let the contagion spread. “We do not intend to allow any commercial activity that has the potential to cause the spread of the virus,” said Tiwari. “We are working out some strategies but the final decision would be based on government of India’s guidelines post May 3.” Meanwhile, chief minister Yogi Adityanath called for resumption of essential activities in green and orange zones in the state by preparing an action plan.
