With a push from the Union government the Uttarakhand government has stepped up efforts for enhancing strategic road network in the areas of the state bordering China and Nepal. The proposals for roads that were pending for several years have now been dusted and time frame has been fixed for completing these projects.“Better road connectivity will benefit the local population, enhance tourism activities and support the smooth movement of supplies on the border posts,” said Utpal Kumar, Chief Secretary, who chaired a meeting on border roads.
The ITBP road work from Nyu-sobla- Sela-tedang (42.34 km) on the Indo-China border will gain speed as mining has been approved. Earlier, the work was hampered due to slow work on land acquisition. This will involve construction of bailey bridges and suspension bridges. While approval has been given for Sonam PDA-Sumla (13.5 km) road, the same is awaited for Niti village to Niti pass and the Simli-Gawaldam road. Five border roads were planned along the China border in 2008.
