Venkaiah Naidu Says Loan Waiver a State Decision, Centre Has No Plans For It

Union minister for information and broadcasting M Venkaiah Naidu on Monday ruled out the Centre’s farm loan waiver after farmers’ from various states demanded a replication of the Uttar Pradesh government’s move. “The Central government has no plan to waive farm loans and there is no such proposal for consideration. As it is a state subject, individual states have to take a call on it,” Naidu told reporters in Odisha.

On a day’s visit to participate in the Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas (SSSV) sammelan and other programmes organised by the BJP to mark three years of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre, Naidu said the waiver of farm loans depends on the financial viability of individual states. He added that it was the states that had to decide on the issue.

The Union Parliamentary affairs minister said the NDA government has inherited many problems from the UPA government. The condition of the farmers worsened during the Congress regime while the Modi government is trying to solve it.The Prime Minister has taken a number of measures including the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana to alleviate their miseries.
