In a late night development, the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government announced the portfolios allocated to the ministers in the cabinet. The chief minister had already indicated who his top Cabinet ministers were after inking a major triumph in the state assembly elections when he managed to trounce the Congress party led by his predecessor Harish Rawat. This was a major triumph by the BJP president Amit Shah.

According to reports chief minister Rawat has kept as many as 40 departments including Home Ministery with himself. Prakash Pant has been given as many as 10 portfolios to handle.

1 Trivendra Singh Rawat Chief Minister: Power, Health, PWD, others

2 Satpal Maharaj Cabinet Minister: Irrigation, Flood control, Tourism & Culture, and others

3 Arvind Pandey Cabinet Minister: Vidyalayi shiksha department

4 Harak S Rawat Cabinet Minister: Forest, Wild Life

5 Yashpal Arya Cabinet Minister: Transport, Social welfare, Minority welfare

6 Madan Kaushik Cabinet Minister: Urban development

7 Subodh Uniyal Cabinet Minister: Krishi mantralaya

8 Rekha Arya Cabinet Minister: Mahila evam bal vikash

9 Prakash Pant Cabinet Minister: Finance, Excise, Commercial and Entertainment tax

10 Dhan Singh Rawat: Higher education

Earlier in the day, Prem Chandra Agrawal, 56, a 3-time BJP MLA from Rishikesh, was elected unopposed as the Uttarakhand Assembly Speaker. He was handed over the charge as the new Speaker of the House by pro-tem Speaker Harbans Kapoor after he was elected to the post. Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat had introduced him in the Assembly and referred to him as a resolute man of action. Since no other party or member had filed nomination for the Speaker’s post on Wednesday, Aggarwal’s unopposed election was a foregone conclusion. Agrawal has a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) background.
