The newly elected MLAs of Uttarakhand today took oath as members of the state Assembly.Pro-tem Speaker Harbans Kapoor administered the oath of office to 69 of the 70 MLAs at the swearing-in ceremony held in the Assembly.All 57 members of the BJP, including Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and his council of ministers, besides 10 legislators of the Congress and two Independent candidates took oath.Congress veteran and Haldwani MLA Indira Hridayesh, who could not turn up for some reason for the swearing-in ceremony, will take oath later.
However, BJP legislator Pushkar Singh Dhami was administered the oath of office later in the evening in the chamber of the Pro-tem Speaker.The father-son duo of Yashpal Arya and Sanjeev Arya also took oath. They would be seen in action from the side of treasury benches.Both former Congress leaders Yashpal Arya and Harak Singh Rawat occupied the same seats they had occupied as ministers in the previous Congress government.
