The time for talking is over, the world needs to act now, PM Narendra Modi said at the UN Climate Action Summit on Monday. “We must accept that if we have to tackle the climate crisis, what we are doing today isn’t enough. What we need is a global behavioural change,” he added, urging world leaders to act immediately to protect the environment.
The unexpected appearance of Donald Trump during Modi’s speech created a flutter. Trump dropped in just as Modi was speaking, listened intently, and applauded some of his remarks. He left soon after the next speaker, Germany’s Angela Merkel, finished. While Modi has positioned himself as a climate warrior, the US president is a climate change sceptic who pulled the US out of the Paris Agreement.
