A terrorist was caught during an encounter that began last evening in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district. This is the first time in recent years that a terrorist was caught while an encounter was underway in south Kashmir. Another terrorist was killed.
During the overnight gunbattle, a terrorist who has been identified as Adil, was caught. Police said Adil had recently joined the Hizbul Mujahideen group. Another terrorist, Tariq Ahmad, was killed in the exchange of fire. Police said a joint operation was launched by security forces on last evening after they received a tip-off about the presence of three terrorists at Barbugh village in Shopian. Police said the search operation is underway.
On Saturday, terrorists attacked a police party in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district leaving a constable dead, striking barely a kilometre from the venue of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s scheduled meeting with security personnel today. Mr Singh is on four-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir in a bid to “interact with delegations from different sections of the society.”
