To promote sustainable energy development, coal companies have started setting up of solar projects. Details of actions taken and funds allocated for this purpose, are as under:
- Coal India Limited (CIL) has so far installed 11.5 MW rooftop & ground mounted projects in CIL & its subsidiaries. Work orders for 300 MW capacity of Ground Mounted Projects have been awarded. CIL has allocated Rs. 853 Crores Capex for development of solar power projects for the current FY i.e. Financial Year 2022-23 and have already spent Rs. 402 Crores till Feb’23.
- NLCIL has already installed around 1421 MW of Renewable energy. NLCIL is additionally installing around 4610 MW under MNRE and CPSU scheme leading to a total of 6031 MW of Renewable Energy by 2030. The expansion of the Renewable Energy of 4610 MW additionally, will be undertaken with an estimated cost of Rs. 23,403 Cr. over a period of eight years.
Currently, alternative fuels like Coal Bed Methane (CBM), Coal Mine Methane (CMM) and alternative use of coal such as Coal to Chemicals are the thrust area of Government of India. Accordingly, CIL and NLCIL have laid special emphasis on implementation of Clean Coal Technology across its business value chain. One project of CBM has been awarded in Bharat Coking Coal Limited on revenue sharing basis and as such no fund is needed to start the project.
