Development plans entailing total investments of Rs 50,000 crore in power, solar energy, education and tourism sectors are in the pipeline for the newly-created Union territory of Ladakh, home minister Amit Shah said on Sunday. Launching the sale of winter-grade diesel in Ladakh’s capital Leh through video-conference, Shah said the government has made a provision to ensure that budget allocations for Ladakh will not lapse in case they are not utilized fully within the fiscal.
This has been done in view Ladakh’s special development needs and to allow the local administration to make full use of funds as per their development needs.This is the first time winter-grade diesel, common in the US, Europe and Eurasia during their harsh winter, has been introduced in India. Its sale will be limited to the high-altitude areas such as Leh and Kargil in Ladakh as well as Keylong and Kaza in Himachal Pradesh during winter.
