The Delhi government will deploy anti-smog guns mounted on trucks in industrial areas to check dust and other pollutants, according to officials aware of the development.

The government has already started the process for hiring heavy-duty anti-smog guns. In the first phase, eight such anti-smog guns will be hired which will be run by the contractor, the officials said.

Delhi has 24 registered industrial areas with over 8,500 registered factories. These areas include Okhla industrial area, Wazirpur industrial area, Naraina industrial area, and Patparganj industrial area, among others.

“The anti-smog guns will work in two shifts beginning from 3am. Sprinkling of water will be done on roads in these areas,” said an official.

The vehicles on which the anti-smog guns will be installed will be fitted with GPS devices to track their movement. The officials managing the industrial areas, such as government engineers will be provided access to the GPS feed to monitor the trucks’ movement.

A separate official said that the vehicles will not use potable water for sprinkling.
