The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to stay the swearing-in of BJP leader Manohar Parrikar as the Chief Minister of Goa.A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of India JS Khehar, however, requested Governor Mridula Sinha to convene the Assembly on March 16 when the only agenda before the House, apart from oath-taking of MLAs, will be the floor test.

The Governor, who had appointed Parrikar as Chief Minister on Monday, had given him 15 days to prove his majority in the 40-member House. He is likely to be administered oath on Tuesday evening. The bench didn’t agree with Goa Congress Legislature Party leader Chandrakant Kavlekar’s plea that decision on administering oath to anyone as Chief Minister should be taken only after a composite floor test.
