Petrol and diesel pumps will keep their operations shut for a day (from 6am on October 23 to 6am on October 24) across the state in protest against increased VAT. They claimed that the sale of diesel had taken a dip in Rajasthan due to increased VAT.

Terming it a as corrective measure, the Congress government in July had reversed previous Raje government’s decision to reduce the VAT on petrol and diesel by 4%. At that time, VAT on petrol was 30%, which was brought down to 26% and VAT on diesel was reduced from 22% to 18%.

“The sale of diesel has taken a significant dip and it is continuously decreasing. We have made the state government aware about the losses incurred by the filling stations,” said Sunit Bagai, president, Rajasthan Petrol Diesel Association (RPDA).
