Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi conducted an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas in Punjab and later chaired a review meeting in Gurdaspur with officials and elected representatives. He assessed the damage and reviewed ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts in the state.
The Prime Minister announced ₹1,600 crore financial assistance for Punjab, in addition to the ₹12,000 crore already available with the state. He also assured the advance release of the second instalment of SDRF and benefits under PM Kisan Samman Nidhi.
PM Modi emphasized a multi-dimensional recovery plan covering housing, infrastructure, agriculture, education, and livestock support. Key measures include:
- Rebuilding homes under PM Awaas Yojana – Gramin for eligible households.
- Restoration of highways and schools with financial support through Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan.
- Agriculture relief, including refurbishing silted borewells under RKVY, solarization of diesel bore pumps through MNRE, and micro-irrigation under Per Drop More Crop.
- Livestock assistance through distribution of mini kits.
- Water sustainability with construction and repair of recharge structures under Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari.
The Prime Minister also announced ex-gratia assistance of ₹2 lakh to the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the seriously injured. Children orphaned due to floods and landslides will receive comprehensive support under the PM CARES for Children Scheme.
Inter-Ministerial Central Teams have been deputed to assess the damage, and further aid will be provided based on their report and the State Government’s memorandum. PM Modi expressed condolences to the bereaved families and assured the people of Punjab that the Union Government stands firmly with them in this difficult time.
The Prime Minister lauded the tireless efforts of NDRF, SDRF, the Army, State administration, and volunteers in rescue and relief operations. He reaffirmed that the Centre will continue to work in close coordination with the State Government to ensure timely relief and long-term rehabilitation.
