Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Arunachal Pradesh in the early part of this year, continuing with the policy of sending out a strong signal to China that its repeated protests will not deter Indian leaders from visiting the frontier state.

Although the dates of the PM’s visit have yet to be firmed up, the matter was discussed when Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu met Modi in Delhi recently, ET has learnt. In November and December 2017, visits by defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman and President Ram Nath Kovind to Arunachal Pradesh had drawn sharp reactions from China, which seeks to lay claim to parts of India’s north-easternmost state.
