Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Chancery premises of the High Commission of India in Brunei today in a ceremony marked by traditional Indian rituals. On this occasion, he lit a ceremonial lamp and unveiled a commemorative plaque to officially open the new building.

During the event, PM Modi engaged with members of the Indian community who had gathered for the inauguration. He expressed his deep appreciation for their role as a “living bridge” between India and Brunei, highlighting their significant contributions to fostering stronger bilateral ties.

The arrival of Indians in Brunei began with the discovery of oil in the 1920s, marking the first wave of migration. Today, around 14,000 Indians reside in Brunei, where their contributions, particularly in the fields of healthcare and education, are widely recognized and valued, according to an official press release.
