Jaitley : Govt To Achieve 9,000 km Highway Construction By End of FY18

Finance Ministry Arun Jaitley today said that the government will achieve 9,000 km highway construction by the end of the fiscal year 2017-2018. The Finance Minister, while presenting the fifth Budget of the government, said that Rs 5.35 lakh crore has been allocated for the Bharatmala project for constructing 35000 km of roads. The Finance Minister proposed the construction of a tunnel under the Se-La pass in Arunachal Pradesh.

Arun Jaitley also announced that 4,267 unmanned railway crossing will be eliminated in next two years and all railway stations and trains will be provided WiFi and CCTVs progressively. He said that the Airport Authority of India, which now has 124 airports, will be expanded by five times and aim of one billion trips a year. “Focus will be on safety, maintenance of railway tracks, increase in use of technology and fog safety devices,” Arun Jaitley said.Arun Jaitley announced redevelopment of 600 major railway stations. He said that the Mumbai transport will be expanded. He allocated Rs 11,000 crore for Mumbai rail network.
