It may take three weeks before operations can resume at the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited plant at Cherlapally, where a blast took place on September 14. The investigative authority— Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) has issued approvals to HPCL to clean its premises.

Deputy chief controller of PESO Dr R. Venugopal said that samples from the plant were sent to the Government of India’s lab at Bangalore. “It may take two more months before we get the report. Based on the report we will take further action. We have not restored the licence of the HPCL plant. During investigation, we found that the fire began at the Carousal. We are investigating if it is due to the negligence of the management and maintenance company,” he said.
