Vasantotsav, which has become a popular and waited event over the past few years, concluded at Raj Bhawan here today.The Governor, at the concluding ceremony of the festival, gave away prizes to 138 winners (first, second and third position holders) of various competitions organised as part of the spring festival.Besides, three floriculturists from all districts of the state were given encouragement prizes.Shobhit Priyadarshi, Mehak Thapa and Abhiti Mishra, who got the first, second and third positions in the stamp collection /display contest, were given Rs 5,000, Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000, respectively. The Governor, while addressing the gathering, said Uttarakhand can surely become as a floriculture state (Pushp Bhumi) as the climate and the environment here was conducive for the growth of all kinds of flowers. Commercial cultivation of flowers would boost the economy and provide employment in remote areas. The Governor said the two-day event of colour and fragrance would surely have created new energy, freshness and enthusiasm in the hearts of all visitors. He said this was not just a flower exhibition but was a unique convergence of floriculturists, flower lovers, nature lovers, music, folk art and painting.
