In the aftermath of the terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir’s Pahalgam on Tuesday afternoon, which claimed at least 26 lives and left several others injured, Delhi Police has ramped up security measures across the national capital and its borders, senior officers confirmed.
As a precautionary step, security has been intensified at key locations including tourist spots, metro stations, bus terminals, and the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. Officers stationed at these sites reported that checks are being conducted regularly to ensure law and order.
“These are general instructions from senior officials. While no additional measures have been mandated, we are ensuring adequate deployment at all times,” an officer said, asking not to be named.
“We have increased security in Connaught Place, Janpath, Sarojini Nagar Market, the Lutyens’ zone, Red Fort, Akshardham Temple, Lotus Temple, and other popular tourist destinations. Our teams are also monitoring malls, shopping centres, commercial hubs, and other high-footfall areas,” the officer said.
Senior officials added that AI-powered surveillance cameras and drones are being deployed to monitor crowded areas, providing real-time footage and analysis to aid the police response. Patrolling has also been stepped up at the city borders and in residential neighbourhoods.
Furthermore, teams have been dispatched to carry out checks at guest houses, motels, hotels, and homestays across Delhi, the officers said.
