COVID-19 Cases Surge In India: Active Positives Touch 3,395 In India

COVID-19 cases in India have surged yet again with an increase in numbers as the total tally of active COVID-19 cases in India reaches 3,395. As the death toll rises, Kerala becomes the first state to have over 1,000 active cases of COVID-19 alone. Delhi saw nearly three times growth in cases as it touched 375 and reported its first death on Friday, May 30. While the variant existence of JN.1 was incidental, the 60-year-old woman was undergoing a sensitive treatment of the intestinal tract, an area known to be attacked by the COVID-19 Omicron variant.

States like Tamil Nadu and Karnataka have crossed the 100 mark too but Maharashtra, Gujarat and Delhi have been hit worst after Kerala. With Maharashtra at 467 cases and Gujarat at 265, there has been a notable increase of 685 cases in India as West Bengal reports 205 COVID-19 positives.

    “No need to panic”

Health officials and political leaders have been repeatedly ensuring residents that the symptoms are mild and subtle. While being highly transmissible protein mutations of the JN.1 variant, the COVID-19 variants NB.1.8.1 and LF.7 have shown manageable symptoms.

Ensuring hospitals have all necessary facilities, states are stocking up vaccines, RT-PCR tests, isolation arenas and oxygen cylinders. Delhi CM Rekha Gupta and Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah have assured their states of the preparedness of infrastructure in case of a further surge in cases.

    COVID-19 NB.1.8.1 and LF.7 Symptoms

While they are expressed as mild and subtle, awareness about symptoms has been mandated by health officials. Doctors advise that persistence beyond 4 days is the only cause for concern in patients. The variants are likely to attack unvaccinated adults with low immunity as all of COVID-19 deaths reported in 2025 have underlying causes.

Symptoms to watch out include nasal congestion, gastrointestinal issues, nausea, prolonged fatigue and headaches along with throat pain and other influenza like symptoms.

As per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare data, only Sikkim remains the state with no COVID-19 active cases. With the least cases in Uttarakhand, a positive trend of recovery has been observed.
