The 3000-odd LPG-fitted vehicle owners in the district could be held for violation of the LPG orders of 2000 and 2001. Auto LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas), as an alternative fuel for four-wheelers is a favourite among many car users, as it is cheaper and more environment friendly fuel than conventional petrol and diesel. But a more profitable reason is the cost advantage of using a subsidized cooking cylinder for fuel. A 14.2 kg (~ 27 litre) domestic LPG cylinder at ₹ 600 is preferred over fuel gas at a station for ₹35 per litre.
According to the data available with the district Regional Transport Office here, there are 12,954 petrol, 12,745 diesel and 3052 LPG/CNG variant four-wheelers registered in the district, both transport and non-transport.
