The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved four major infrastructure projects under the Ministry of Railways, with a total estimated cost of ₹11,169 crore.

    Approved Projects:

    1. Itarsi – Nagpur (4th Line)

    2. Aurangabad (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar) – Parbhani Doubling

    3. Aluabari Road – New Jalpaiguri (3rd and 4th Line)

    4. Dangoaposi – Jaroli (3rd and 4th Line)

    Key Highlights:

    • These multi-tracking projects aim to ease congestion, enhance line capacity, and improve operational efficiency for Indian Railways.

    • The initiatives align with PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan, focusing on multi-modal connectivity and logistics efficiency through integrated planning.

    • The projects will cover 13 districts across Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, and Jharkhand.

    • A total of 574 km of new railway tracks will be added, benefiting 2,309 villages and around 43.6 lakh people.

    Strategic Benefits:

    • These routes are critical for transporting coal, cement, clinker, gypsum, fly ash, containers, agri-products, and petroleum.

    • The projects will handle an additional freight load of 95.91 MTPA (Million Tonnes Per Annum).

    • Environmental impact includes:

      • Reduction in oil imports by 16 crore litres

      • CO₂ emission reduction by 515 crore kg — equivalent to planting 20 crore trees

    Broader Impact:

These railway developments are integral to realizing the Prime Minister’s vision of a self-reliant (Atmanirbhar) India, by promoting local development, employment, and economic empowerment through better connectivity and streamlined logistics.
