At least three Nepalese pilgrims were killed and eight others went missing after a hotel was washed away in flash floods near Kedarnath temple area in Uttarakhand, officials said on Sunday. The bodies of at least three Nepalese pilgrims were recovered while eight others were missing after a landslide hit the Kedarnath yatra route due to heavy rains on Thursday, according to the Nepal government’s Gorakhpatra daily.
The entire hotel was washed away in the landslide
Officials said the landslide washed away the entire hotel where the Nepalese nationals were staying. “Of the 11 people from Nepal who went missing after the incident, bodies of three have been recovered while eight are still missing,” Patsari village municipality president Purna Singh Bohra said. He said that all the three Nepalese pilgrims who lost their lives were from Patsari.
Meanwhile, Nepal’s Home Ministry spokesman Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said the government has received information about the tragedy and necessary efforts are being made to rescue the Nepalese nationals who are missing in the incident. Kanchanpur district of Nepal is adjacent to Uttarakhand in India.
