The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has nominated Dinesh Sharma as its candidate for the Rajya Sabha by-election from Uttar Pradesh. The upper house seat fell vacant after the death of BJP MP Haridwar Dubey. Polling will be held on September 15 and counting of votes will take place on the same day.
Bjp’s Rajya Sabha MP Hardwar Dubey died in Delhi on June 26. Hardwar Dubey was 74 years old and was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Delhi. Hardwar Dubey, a resident of Agra, suddenly deteriorated after which he was taken to the hospital.
Earlier also, only office-bearers working in the BJP organization were sent to the Legislative Council and Rajya Sabha. In 2020, the BJP had sent eight leaders to the Rajya Sabha. The names of BL Verma and Hardwar Dubey were included in it. In the elections to the Rajya Sabha or Legislative Council, the BJP’s effort is mostly to promote only office-bearers working in the state or region team in the party.
Earlier, when the BJP announced the Rajya Sabha candidates, Laxmikant Bajpai, who was the president from 2012 to 2016, was also nominated to the Rajya Sabha.
